BANG BANG
I remember I had to control my breathing.
I looked through the sight once more, and the sun was just getting ready to set. I knew I did not have much time left. Once again, because of all the excitement, I had left my night vision scope in the safe. I wondered how Isa was holding up in the woods. Arda was probably by his side.
It’s always good to stay positive; once you have a bad thought it’s over, and you’re ruined. There is no return from that one bad thought because it takes over your entire being.
You know what they say, all it takes is one bad apple to rot the entire barrel.
BANG! BANG!
I heard two gunshots go off, and for a second I hesitated. Finally, I heard one last gunshot- a thick sound. The kind of sound a 1014 makes when it goes off. The Mobs were trained hand-to-hand combat fighters, and if close, they would never hesitate to use knives, daggers, and sometimes even swords. I once saw a man who received a stab wound at a bar fight many years back in the City. He went into shock before he fell. When in shock, the human body does all sorts of things, and if the individual has a finger on the trigger, be sure as hell that’s what he will pull. There was skull matter and blood everywhere.
For a second, I thought of Isa, but I reassured myself everything was fine. In battle, there is no time to think about that - not now. This was my spot, I reminded myself. The woods are not the easiest to navigate through, and for the Others, and even the Elite soldiers, it is damn near impossible; especially once they got off the trail.
These were our woods, and along those trees were trails we built.
Lucky for us, back then it seemed that they were always dumb enough to follow through our man made paths. This was before they had HUD devices on their visors mind you, but back then, they did have devices, which lead them straight to the Lotus field that used to be one mile south of the Ranch.
They despised us; hell, they still do. They hated the Farm and our ideologies because they knew that the Lotus would fix everything and strip them of their gold. We would empty their pockets and take back humanity to what it once was. Anyway, that Lotus field was a trap we set up, we never even picked from that field.
The real field was two and a half miles north near the farm, where the entrance is to the Units are now. They tried to cut down our trees one time, until our friends in the East sent in a few air strikes about a mile from Elite HQ in the heart of the City.
That startled them so much- they never ever dare attempt to hurt our trees again.
Anyway, after I heard that final gunshot, I watched Arda run out of the path and into the cornfields.
She did wonderful as usual, leading the men straight to me. I was about 700 meters away. I saw two men coming out of the woods, and they both had Elite military grade weapons. The taller one had an MP5, and the shorter one, if I recall, had another German made weapon, it appeared to be the Kalashnikov.
I put my finger on the trigger and I inhaled.
BANG!
I fired a shot. It pierced the Elite soldier who was holding the MP5 square in the nose.
My body was so calm and loose at first, right up until I pulled that trigger. Right after that, it was like clockwork every single time, but I am stiff and my heart is rugged.
Oh, anyway, there were two of them. His comrade stood there in shock giving me time to shoot again.
I took another deep breath.
BANG!
I got the smaller intruder in the chest, and he fell on top of the other corpse of the soldier by his side.
I looked to my left and Arda was in the prone position next to me.
I whispered some things to her, and I comforted her while moving my fingers through the hair on her back.
She truly was my best friend, I reminded myself as I told the story.
